(´Ù) Colonization is a specific form of cultural and economic exploitation that developed with the expansion of the West over the last 400 years. Colonies of the western empires adopted western institutions, and thus, colonization meant westernization. Former colonies want to overcome their colonial legacy, but it dies hard. In addition, colonized people have internalized some contradictions derived from colonial experiences. Firstly, they had to, or wanted to, imitate the colonizer by adopting the latter's habits and ways of thinking. Their imitation resulted, not just in the simple reproduction of those traits, but in a sense of inferiority. Secondly, colonized people have double standards for judging people: one for their fellows, and another for their colonizers. This self-division is a direct result of imposed colonialism. These contradictory factors constituted the structure of feelings and attitudes of the colonized people for the following generations, even after independence has been achieved.
